Look at the adverts. Look at all those wonderfully toned models, notice something? They are toned all over! That must mean they are spending a lot of time on other exercises. Have you ever seen anyone with fantastically toned abs and everything else looking flabby or untoned. That is enough for me to know that these devices on their own are never going to be enough!

Two GREAT answers so far. . .

I've been diving since 1989, and I've never had an issue.

The new integrated weight systems are really slick. I still go old-school with a traditional belt, and you do always want to make sure there are no weights at or below your cylinder. Have a quality belt, regardless of style. Rental weight belts are usually pretty crummy. There are crotch straps and other lockdowns that might help your comfort level.

There is the converse to your problem where in a serious emergency, dropping the belt is the protocol, especially in saving a drowning or panicked diver.

I attached an article that talks about risks, and pros and cons of weight systems.

There's not much you can do if there's no descent line in hand or you had the sudden inspiration to grab a heavy object from the bottom.

If you're lucky, your buddy saw it happen and is there with his BC air dumped and holding you, to slow you down. You're going up as a rule, unless you are carrying other items that are negatively buoyant, like wreck reels or a heavy D cell light and you've dumped all the air out of your BC. Chances are, you'll have some sort of wet suit on as well, which doesn't help you at all in this case.

All you can do is slow your ascent, using whatever means at your disposal and remember that the closer you get to the surface, the faster you'll be going. Flaring out your body and fins, whatever you have to do to slow your ascent.
You're obviously an Open water cert, so you shouldn't be any deeper than 60 feet when this happens.

A DCS hit won't be an issue but holding your breath WILL be. Just don't forget to slowly exhale as you go up.

I've been a certified diver since 1975, and I've never lost my weight belt yet. I HAVE had it come loose, however, but it's easy to deal with if you know what to do, and you're prepared for it.

The belt usually comes loose at depth because your wetsuit compresses as you go deeper. The easiest thing to do then is to get into a horizontal position, facing the bottom. Grab the end of the belt that sticks through the buckle, and hold it firmly. Gently open the buckle, cinch the belt tighter, and close the buckle again. That's it. Easy as pie. If the belt somehow comes off your back, you still have it in your hand, and you won't rocket to the surface unless you panic and drop it.

If you do somehow lose your weightbelt, try to grab something to help hold you down - the wreck, the ascent or anchor line if possible, etc. You may be able to swim down yet to get the belt, depending on how bouyant you are and how close you are to the bottom. If you start an uncontrolled ascent, the most common technique I've heard of is to get horizontal again, but facing up, and spread your arms and legs wide to slow your ascent. Dump the air out of your BC as fast as possible to further slow your ascent. Maintain an open airway, or even blow out to help prevent overinflating your lungs and possibly rupturing them.

When you get to the surface, alert the dive boat of your situation. Use the emergency signal of waving your hand if you need to. If you're quick, you may be able to get another weight belt and return to a safe depth. If not, you may get a quick ride to the pot.

Incidentally, I think that the weight-integrated BCs are useful here if you think this might happen. If you have separate weights in several pockets, you have less chance of losing everything at once.

I haven't seen one of those since the 80's. Like everyone else here has said, weight loss vibrators do not work. Like most weight loss products/systems out there they promise quick results with no effort.

When it comes to weight loss there is no such thing.

Always remember healthy weight loss is gradual weight loss. 1 kg (2 pounds) a week is considered healthy.

If you burn more calories than you take in (achieved through a healthy eating plan), build up muscle through strength training and complete 30 minutes of solid cardio a day then weight loss is a certainty.

There is no magic secret to weight loss.

It is all about hard work, commitment, goal setting and desire.

If you want to lose weight you can and you will.

This following website gives you the tools you need to develop a healthy lifestyle and maintain it for a lifetime.

Good luck and all the best with your weight loss goals

Hate to break it to you, but they don't actually work. To be quite honest, you'll get better results doing sit ups.
The reason they don't work is because:
-You need to burn calories to lose weight. You don't burn calories with a vibrating belt.
-Muscles are barely worked, and even then it's only your ab muscles.
-You can't target specific areas for weight-loss (according to every doctor on the planet), so this belt isn't going to make you have a thin waist with fabulous abs.

I think there is a product made by Dr Ripoff called the Scaminator.

The product has enjoyed sales of millions to people who still, to this day, are fat.

C'mon, these things don't work. I'm not trying to be mean here but these types of scams are what keeps new ripoff artists coming down the pike promising the next big thing in weight loss.

You lose fat by burning off more than you consume. Period. You supercharge your body and make it burn more calories and look more compact by gaining muscle. No pill does that. No diet does that.

And certainly no cream, belt or laxative does that.

Diet pills or any kind of weight loss product that advertises no healthy eating or exercises is bad for you.
I'm not going to tell you to diet because that's ridiculous.

But as for exercise, that's needed for your body to stay healthy. Trust me.

So read this, please. I'm not trying to offend you but this is just a suggestion to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.

First of all, I really hope that throughout this process you're considering your health before your image.

It's really not healthy to starve yourself by just drinking slim fast and protein shakes. This is a healthier version of weight loss that your body will thank you for!

Exercise:
A. Go to your local gym. I personally love going to the YMCA and taking classes such as Spin, Boot Camp, and Xtreme Pump.

They are an hour long each and REALLY help you to get fit!
B. *If you can't afford a membership or just don't have the time, you could wake up early in the mornings or go out in the evenings for a nice run around your neighborhood. Bring an iPod or MP3 with you to pump yourself with fast-paced and easy going music.
*You can also set a goal for yourself to do 100 sit ups, push ups, and stretches every morning and night, and before you take your run.

It helps to build muscle and tone the areas that running doesn't focus on.

Food: (THIS IS NOT A DIET)
First and foremost, please DO NOT go on any crazy, unhealthy, starving diets. Still eat 3 meals a day with a snack between each.
(and all of this is from my experience)
*For breakfast, have a healthy cereal with a piece of fruit and a bagel. Drink orange juice and/or coffee with it.
*Lunch, a plate of spagetti with low-fat garlic bread and a glass of milk. (BTW, if you drink 3 glasses of low fat milk a day, it helps to make your bones strong and make you leaner :D) Have some broccoli or another small portion of veggies on the side.
*Dinner, similar to lunch: your basic entree, a portion of veggies, some milk and/or water

Snacks can include healthy yogurts, fruits, and wheat thins. Drink water throughout the day, too.

It helps to flush out your system and keep you hydrated throughout your exercises.

It sounds like a difficult routine to get used to, but it's so easy once you get started. I do the exact same routine and I am now 115 lbs and VERY healthy and energetic! Working out will be difficult at first, but once your body gets used to using so much energy, it will crave it!

And as far as eating before you exercise, you can do either
*have a snack before
*or have a full meal, then wait an hour before exercising

and ALWAYS eat after exercising, and drink water!

I hope I have helped you and GOOD LUCK!

PS- as for results, you will begin to FEEL them before you notice them! if you exercise for 30 mintues to an hour 4-6 days a week, you can lose up to 3 lbs that week.

It's healthy to only lose small amounts of weight at a time, like 2-3 lbs a week.

Results on the scale are also different from your health. When you start exercising you will start to gain muscle, so it will seem like you're not losing weight when you step on the scale, but you will notice by your size.

Firstly, if your belt fits better, then why worry about the scale at all?

It certainly is possible to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time because I've done that. I am interested in knowing exactly what exercises you do and what weights you do them at, including your cardio. Shoot me that in an email and we can figure it out. :)

It sounds like you've got a recipe for success already.

Muscle tone comes from already having muscles, and losing enough fat for them to finally become more visable. (Lower ab muscles don't usually show up until 9% body fat or lower, for example. )

You don't have to do sets with high reps even. Lower rep numbers is still good when losing weight. Just keep doing the cardio, and keep your calories in check.

As long as your incision is fully healed I don't see why not but ask a doctor first.
